The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few from the latter. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and continuous shade, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And couches raised up. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
