The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 Upon the infidels -- which none would be able to repel -- 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 So, (O Prophet), persevere with gracious perseverance. 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 And no familiar friend will ask a question of his friend 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 except those who are steadfast 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 And those who are firm upon their testimonies. 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 Such shall dwell in the Gardens (i.e. Paradise) honoured. 35
