By no means! By the moon, 32 And [by] the night when it departs 33 The morning when it is unveiled, 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 As a warning unto men, 36 Whoever of you desires to progress or lag behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 except those of the right hand 39 In gardens, they shall ask each other 40 Concerning the culprits: 41 "What has brought you into the Fire of Hell ?" 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 Nor did we used to feed the poor. 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 And rejected the Day of Judgement as a lie 46 till the certainty (death) overtook us' 47 The intercession of the intercessors shall then be of no avail to them. 48 WHAT, THEN, is amiss with them that they turn away from all admonition 49 As if they were alarmed donkeys 50 Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey. 51 No indeed; each one of them desires that open letters be sent to each of them. 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 No, indeed, surely, this is a Reminder. 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 But none will remember, unless Allah wills, He is the Owner of fear, the Owner of forgiveness. 56
