The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and banana trees, 29 And shade extended 30 Gushing water, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 and raised couches 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
