The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 About the great event, 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 The night a covering, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 The Day of Judgment will certainly be the final appointment. 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 a return for the insolent, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 a fitting requital, 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
