He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 So you are after him! 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
