He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And he fears, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
