He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and fearfully, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted and holy, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
