The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Woe to those who give less [than due], 1 Who, when they take the measure (of their dues) from men take it fully, 2 Whilst when they measure or weigh for them, give less. 3 Do they not think that they will be called to account?- 4 For a mighty day, 5 The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 Indeed the ledger of the wicked will be in (the lowest depths) Sijjin. 7 And what could make thee conceive what that that mode inescapable will be? 8 It is a comprehensively written Book (of records). 9 Woe unto the repudiators on that day! 10 Those that deny the Day of Judgment. 11 And none can deny it except every transgressor beyond bounds, (in disbelief, oppression and disobedience of Allah, the sinner!) 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says: 'Fictitious tales of the ancients' 13 By no means! but on their hearts is the stain of the (ill) which they do! 14 Nay! most surely they shall on that day be debarred from their Lord. 15 Then they shall roast in Hell, 16 Then, it will be said to them: "This is what you used to deny!" 17 No indeed! Verily, the deeds of the virtuous shall be in the record of the exalted ones. 18 What could let you know what the 'Illiyoon is! 19 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record 20 To which bear witness those nearest (to Allah, i.e. the angels). 21 Surely the pious shall be in bliss, 22 reclining on couches, reviewing (the bounties given to them). 23 You will recognise in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 They will be given to drink of pure wine, sealed. 25 its seal will be of musk -- for this let the aspirants aspire -- 26 and its mixture is Tasneem, 27 a fountain at which those brought near (to their Lord) drink. 28 Surely they who are guilty used to laugh at those who believe. 29 And when they passed by them, they would exchange derisive glances. 30 And when they went back to their people turned to make fun of them; 31 On seeing the believers, they would say, "These people have gone astray". 32 Whereas they were not sent over them as watchers. 33 But today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers; 34 Reclining on couches, looking on. 35 Will not the disbelievers then be duly recompensed for their laughing at the believers? 36
