The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the sky bursts open, 1 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must; 2 and when the earth is stretched out 3 and casts out all that is within it and becomes empty; 4 And attentive to her Lord in fear! 5 O man, you have to strive and go on striving towards your Lord, then will you meet Him. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning, 8 And he will turn to his people, rejoicing! 9 But as for he who is given his record behind his back, 10 He shall presently call for death, 11 and he will enter the blazing flame. 12 Surely he was (erstwhile) joyful among his followers. 13 Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allah]. 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 So indeed I call to witness the evening twilight, 16 by the night and what it covers, 17 And by the moon when it is at the full, 18 Surely ye shall ride layer upon layer. 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 When the Quran is read to them, why do they not fall to their knees? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 God is quite aware of what they are storing in their hearts. 23 So announce to them a Penalty Grievous, 24 except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. 25
