The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 And when the earth shall be stretched forth. 3 and casts forth what is in it, and voids itself, 4 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should. 5 O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it. 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand – 7 Soon an easy account will be taken from him. 8 and shall return to his people joyfully. 9 But he who is given his Record behind his back,- 10 He will cry out for destruction 11 but he will enter the blazing flame. 12 Indeed he used to rejoice in his home. 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yes indeed; his Lord had sight of him. 15 No! I swear by the twilight 16 and the night, and what it [step by step] unfolds, 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 But what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them do not bow in adoration? ۩ 21 In fact the unbelievers disavow. 22 And Allah well knows what they conceal in their hearts. 23 So give them news of painful punishment, 24 except to those who believe, and do righteous deeds, for theirs is an unfailing recompense. 25
