The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the heavens are rent asunder 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 And when the earth is spread out 3 And has cast out all that was in it and became empty, 4 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should. 5 O man, you are striving unto your Lord and you will meet Him. 6 Whoever is given the Record in his right hand 7 He surely will receive an easy reckoning, 8 And he will turn to his people, rejoicing! 9 But he who is given his Book from behind his back 10 he will pray for utter destruction 11 And enter into burning fire. 12 Surely he was (erstwhile) joyful among his followers. 13 and had thought that they would never be brought back to life again. 14 This is a fact. Their Lord is Well-Aware of (all that they do). 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 And by oath of the moon when it is full. 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 What then is the matter with them, that they believe not?- 20 Why, when the Quran is recited to them, do they not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 Whereas Allah knoweth best that which they cherish. 23 So give them tidings of a painful punishment, 24 Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise). 25
