Light (Al-Noor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ This is a chapter which We have sent down and decreed its commands, and in which We have sent down clear verses, in order that you may ponder. 1 The [unmarried] woman or [unmarried] man found guilty of sexual intercourse - lash each one of them with a hundred lashes, and do not be taken by pity for them in the religion of Allah, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let a group of the believers witness their punishment. 2 The adulterer weddeth not but an adulteress or an associatoress: and the adulteress! none weddeth her save an adulterer or an associator; and that is forbidden unto the believers. 3 And those who accuse chaste women and then do not produce four witnesses - lash them with eighty lashes and do not accept from them testimony ever after. And those are the defiantly disobedient, 4 save those who afterwards repent and make amends, for truly God is forgiving and merciful. 5 And those who accuse their wives and have no witnesses except themselves, let them testify by swearing by Allah four times that he is of the truthful, 6 Then the fifth time he shall declare that Allah's curse be upon him if he be false (in his charge). 7 But [as for the wife, all] chastisement shall be averted from her by her calling God four times to witness that he is indeed telling a lie, 8 And the fifth time, that the wrath of Allah be upon her if the man is truthful. 9 And were it not for Allah's grace upon you and His mercy-- and that Allah is Oft-returning (to mercy), Wise! 10
