He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to a rich man, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and who has fear of God, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 mother, father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
