۞ Before this We gave Abraham his guidance. We knew him well. 51 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What, are these the statues to which you cling' 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 He said: assuredly ye, ye and your fathers, have been in error manifest. 54 They said: Bringest thou unto us the truth, or art thou some jester? 55 He said: Nay! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who brought them into existence, and I am of those who bear witness to this: 56 And [he added to himself.] "By God, I shall most certainly bring about the downfall of your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone away!" 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 They said: "Who has done this to our aliha (gods)? He must indeed be one of the wrong-doers." 59 'We have heard a young man called Abraham mention them' they replied. 60 They said: bring him then before the eyes of the people, haply they may bear witness. 61 They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 "No," he said. "It was done by that chief of theirs. Ask him in case they can speak." 63 They then turned to themselves, and said: verily ye it is who are the wrong-doers. 64 But then they reversed their minds: 'You know they do not speak' 65 He said, "Do you, instead of God, worship things that can neither harm nor benefit you?" 66 Woe to you for what you worship instead of God. Have you no understanding?" 67 They said: 'Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do anything' 68 "Turn cold, O fire," We said, "and give safety to Abraham." 69 And they wished to cause him harm, so We made them the greatest of losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 We bestowed Isaac and then Jacob on him as an additional boon and We made all of them righteous. 72 And We made them Imams who guided (people) by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good and the keeping up of prayer and the giving of the alms, and Us (alone) did they serve; 73 And unto Lot we gave judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him from the community that did abominations. Lo! they were folk of evil, lewd. 74 and We admitted him into Our mercy; he was of the righteous. 75
