[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 when their brother Hood said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 124 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you any reward for it; surely my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 “Fear Him Who has aided you with the things you know.” 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 gardens, and springs. 134 “Indeed I fear upon you the punishment of a Great Day.” 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 and we shall never be punished' 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
