He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
