He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and in awe of God 9 you ignore him. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and palms 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing and joyous 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
