Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 We are about to cast upon you a weighty Word. 5 Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. 6 surely in the day thou hast long business. 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He; so take Him for a Guardian. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 food that chokes and painful punishment 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 Surely We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We had sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 If you disbelieve, how will you guard yourself against the Day that will make children gray haired, 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
