۞ (God will command the angels), "Gather together the unjust, their spouses, and what they had worshipped 22 apart from God, and guide them unto the path of Hell! 23 and detain them there; they will be called to account. 24 What aileth you that ye succour not one another? 25 Indeed, today they are surrendering themselves completely.” 26 And they will advance toward each other mutually questioning. 27 Some [of them] will say: "Behold, you were wont to approach us [deceptively] from the right!" 28 They will say: “Nay, you yourselves were not the ones who would believe. 29 We had no power over you. You were a rebellious people, 30 "So now has been proved true, against us, the word of our Lord that we shall indeed (have to) taste (the punishment of our sins). 31 So then, [if it be true that] we have caused you to err grievously - behold, we ourselves had been lost in grievous error!" 32 Then verily, that Day, they will (all) share in the torment. 33 As such We shall deal with the evildoers. 34 For when it was said to them: 'There is no god except Allah' they were always proud 35 and said: “Shall we forsake our deities for the sake of a distracted poet?” 36 In fact, he had brought them the truth and had acknowledged the Messengers (who were sent before him). 37 Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;- 38 And ye shall be required not except for that which ye have been doing; 39 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 40 Whose provision is predetermined -- 41 Fruits; and they will be honoured. 42 In the Gardens of delight, 43 Facing one another on thrones. 44 a goblet from a spring shall be passed round to them 45 white, sparkling (wine), a delight to the drinkers. 46 there is neither sickness in it, nor intoxication. 47 And with them shall be those who restrain the eyes, having beautiful eyes; 48 so delicate as the hidden peel under an egg's shell. 49 Then they will turn to one another, mutually questioning. 50 One of them will say: “I had a companion in the world 51 who used to ask, 'Do you really believe that 52 "(That) when we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed (be raised up) to receive reward or punishment (according to our deeds)?" 53 He said: 'Will you look down?' 54 So he looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He will say to his friend in hell, "By God, you almost destroyed me. 56 Had it not been for the grace of my Lord I too would have been there (in Hell). 57 “So are we never to die?” (The people of Paradise will ask the angels, with delight, after the announcement of everlasting life.) 58 and that we would not be punished?" 59 Verily, this - this indeed - is the triumph supreme!" 60 It is for the like of this that all should strive. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of al-Zaqqum? 62 Verily, We have caused it to be a trial for evildoers: 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hellfire: 64 its spathes are like the heads of satans 65 So indeed they will eat from it, and fill their bellies with it. 66 then in addition to it they shall have a draught of boiling water to drink; 67 They can only return to hell. 68 Truly they found their fathers on the wrong Path; 69 So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps. 70 Thus, indeed, most of the people of old went astray before them, 71 And assuredly We sent among them warners. 72 See how those who were warned met their end! 73 Other than the chosen creatures of God. 74
