The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 and when the earth is leveled, 3 And it unburdens itself of all that is in it, and becomes empty. 4 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 5 O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did). 6 Then, as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand, 7 he shall surely receive an easy reckoning 8 And he will turn to his people, rejoicing! 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 they will say, "Woe to us!" 11 and will enter the Blazing Fire. 12 Verily he was among his people joyous. 13 Verily he imagined that he would not be back. 14 But no; (how would he not revert)? His Lord was ever watching him. 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 and by the night and what it enfolds, 17 or by the moon when it is full, 18 That ye shall journey on from plane to plane. 19 But what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 and when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 Instead, the unbelievers reject it, calling it a lie. 22 And Allah knows best what they gather (of good and bad deeds), 23 So announce to them a Penalty Grievous, 24 Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted. 25
