Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 (Abraham) asked: "Do they hear when you call them? 72 Do they help or harm you?" 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,- 75 "Ye and your fathers before you?- 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 "Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 He Who feedeth me and giveth me to drink. 79 "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me. 80 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life 81 It is He whom I expect to forgive my sins on the Day of Judgment. 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 And grant me an honourable mention in later generations; 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 “And forgive my father* – he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 and do not disgrace me on the Day when all people are resurrected, 87 the Day on which neither wealth will be of any use, nor children, 88 But to him who comes to God with a tranquil heart." 89 Paradise will be brought near those who take heed for themselves and follow the straight path; 90 And hell will be revealed for the astray. 91 They will be asked: "Where are those you worshipped 92 beside Allah? Can they be of any help to you, or even be of any help to themselves?" 93 Then they will be thrown headlong into Hell, both they and the misguided ones, 94 "And the whole hosts of Iblis together. 95 And they will say, and they will be quarrelling in it: 96 "'By Allah, we were truly in an error manifest, 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of all Being. 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 And now we have none to intercede for us, 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 (Alas!) If we only had a chance to return (to the world), we shall truly be among the believers! 102 Surely, in that there is a sign, yet most of them do not believe. 103 Your Lord is certainly Majestic and All-merciful. 104
