The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and shade extended, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 and upraised couches. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
