The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and waters gushing, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And raised couches; 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 and made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
