S (Saad)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Sad, and by the Qur'an full of exhortation! 1 But the Unbelievers (are steeped) in self-glory and Separatism. 2 How many a nation did We destroy before them! (When they approached their doom) they cried out (for deliverance), but the time for deliverance was already past. 3 So they wonder that a Warner has come to them from among themselves! and the Unbelievers say, "This is a sorcerer telling lies! 4 Has he made the gods [only] one God? Indeed, this is a curious thing." 5 Their assembly left (saying): 'Go, and be patient to your gods, this is something to be desired. 6 We have not heard this in the religious community close to our time. This is nothing but a fabrication. 7 Has the reminder been revealed to him from among us? Nay! they are in doubt as to My reminder. Nay! they have not yet tasted My chastisement! 8 Or do they hold the treasures of the mercy of your Lord, the Almighty, the Great Bestower? 9 Or, is theirs the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them? Then let them ascend by (their) means! 10 this host too, among other hosts, is bound to suffer defeat. 11 Even before them the people of Noah, 'Ad, the mighty Pharoah, 12 And the Thamud, and the people of Lut, and the dwellers of the wood; these were the confederates. 13 Of all these there was not one who did not deny the messengers. So My retribution was justified. 14
