And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 when he asked his father and his people, "What is that which you worship?" 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 He said: hearken they unto you when ye cry? 72 "Or do you good or harm?" 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping, 75 you and your forefathers -- 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 “The One Who created me, so He will guide me.” 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 “And when I fall ill, so it is He Who heals me.” 80 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 My Lord, bestow wisdom upon me; unite me with the righteous; 83 and grant me the power to convey the truth unto those who will come after me, 84 Make me inherit the bountiful Paradise. 85 And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray. 86 Do not degrade me on the Day when they are resurrected. 87 The Day when neither wealth nor sons shall benefit 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; 89 And Paradise shall be brought forward for the godfearing, 90 And Hell made visible to those who had gone astray. 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 apart from God? Do they help you or help themselves?' 93 The idol worshippers, the idols, the rebellious ones, 94 and the hosts of iblis all together. 95 They will dispute between themselves therein, and will say, 96 By Allah, of a truth we were in error manifest 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 “And none misled us but the guilty.” 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 In this there is evidence (of the truth), but many of them do not have any faith. 103 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
