The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
All praise unto Allah who hath sent down unto His bondman the Book, and hath not placed therein any crookedness. 1 unswerving. To warn of great violence from Him, and to give good tidings to the believers who do good deeds that theirs shall be a goodly wage 2 [a state of bliss] in which they shall dwell beyond the count of time. 3 And that it may warn those who say: "God has begotten a son." 4 No knowledge whatever have they of Him, and neither had their forefathers: dreadful - is this saying that comes out of their mouths, [and] nothing but falsehood do they utter! 5 Yet perchance, if they do not believe in this tiding, you will consume yourself with grief and follow after them. 6 Indeed, We have made that which is on the earth adornment for it that We may test them [as to] which of them is best in deed. 7 And indeed, We will make that which is upon it [into] a barren ground. 8 Do you think that the Men of the Cave and the Inscription were one of Our wondrous signs? 9 When the young men sought refuge in the cave, they said, "Our Lord, grant us Your special mercy and give us right guidance in our affair." 10 We then thumped upon their ears in the Cave for a number of years. (* Put them to sleep.) 11 Thereafter We raised them up that We might know which of the two parties was best at reckoning the time that they had tarried. 12
