The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 and a few from later times. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and gushing water, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And raised couches. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
