Aaron had indeed told them earlier: "O my people, you are being only misled with this. Surely your Lord is Ar-Rahman. So follow me and obey my command." 90 They said: "We will not stop worshipping it (i.e. the calf), until Musa (Moses) returns to us." 91 (Musa) said: O Haroun! what prevented you, when you saw them going astray, 92 from following me? Why did you disobey my command?" 93 'Son of my mother' he replied, 'Do not seize my beard nor my head. I was afraid that you might say: "You have divided the Children of Israel and did not uphold my word." 94 (Moses) said: "What then is thy case, O Samiri?" 95 He replied: "I saw what they saw not: so I took a handful (of dust) from the footprint of the Messenger, and threw it (into the calf): thus did my soul suggest to me." 96 'Begone! Your lot in this life is to cry: "untouchable!' said he (Moses). 'An appointment awaits you that you cannot fail to keep. Look at your god which you clung to indeed we will burn it and scatter its ashes upon the sea' 97 Your God is only Allah, the One other than whom there is no god. He comprehendeth everything in knowledge. 98 Thus, [O Muhammad], We relate to you from the news of what has preceded. And We have certainly given you from Us the Qur'an. 99 Whoever turns away from it (this Quran i.e. does not believe in it, nor acts on its orders), verily, they will bear a heavy burden (of sins) on the Day of Resurrection, 100 therein abiding forever; how evil upon the Day of Resurrection that burden for them! 101 The day the trumpet blast is sounded We shall raise the sinners blind, 102 They will slowly talk to each other and say, "Our life on earth was as short as ten days". 103 We are most knowing of what they say when the best of them in manner will say, "You remained not but one day." 104
