And when We said to the angels, 'Bow yourselves to Adam'; so they bowed themselves, save Iblis; he refused. 116 Then We said: "O Adam! Verily, this is an enemy to you and to your wife. So let him not get you both out of Paradise, so that you be distressed in misery. 117 "Here you shall not go hungry or be naked, 118 And indeed, you will not be thirsty therein or be hot from the sun." 119 Then the Satan whispered unto him; he said: Adam! shall I direct thee to the tree of eternity and a dominion that ageth not? 120 And so the two ate [of the fruit] thereof: and thereupon they became conscious of their nakedness and began to cover themselves with pieced-together leaves from the garden. And [thus] did Adam disobey his Sustainer, and thus did he fall into grievous error. 121 Then his Lord chose him, and turned to him with forgiveness, and gave him guidance. 122 God said, "Go down, both of you, from here, as enemies to one another." If there comes to you guidance from Me, then whoever follows My guidance will not lose his way, nor will he come to grief, 123 but whosoever turns away from My remembrance, his shall be a life of narrowness, and on the Resurrection Day We shall raise him blind.' 124 He will ask: "O Lord, why have you raised me blind when I was able to see?" 125 He will say, “Similarly did Our signs come to you but you forgot them; and in the same way, nobody will heed you today.” 126 And thus do We recompense him who transgresses beyond bounds and believes not in the Signs of his Lord: and the Penalty of the Hereafter is far more grievous and more enduring. 127 Then, has it not become clear to them how many generations We destroyed before them as they walk among their dwellings? Indeed in that are signs for those of intelligence. 128
