Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 so fear God and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death], 146 In gardens and watersprings. 147 And green crops (fields etc.) and date-palms with soft spadix. 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They said, "You are only bewitched and insane. 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her, and then were penitent. 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 159
