(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 142 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 For this I ask of you no wage; my wage falls only upon the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death], 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 153 You are but a human like ourselves. Produce for us a sign, if you are of the truthful' 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 And do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day." 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
