The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms' length, or even less. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers - Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
