The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and extended shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
