These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 and under the shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cool, neither goodly; 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 and will thereupon have to drink [many a draught] of burning despair 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 This is their reception on the Day of Justice. 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 That, "We have indeed been penalised!" 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
