The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 but We see it near. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 And his wife and his brother 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And all those who are in the earth – then only if the redemption saves him! 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 When evil comes upon him he is impatient; 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he selfishly withholds it [from others]. 21 save those that pray 22 Who are at their prayer constant. 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 And those who fear the torment of their Lord, 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 They will be in gardens, honored. 35
