The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he looked, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
