Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha Mim. 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 in pursuance of thy Sustainer's grace [unto man]. Verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 Yet they turned away from him and said: one tutored, one distraced. 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
