He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and fears (Allah), 9 you ignore him. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
