The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
WOE TO THOSE who give short measure, 1 Who insist on being given full when they take from others, 2 but when they measure or weigh, give less. 3 Do they not think that they will be resurrected 4 [and called to account] on an awesome Day 5 the Day when all men shall stand before the Sustainer of all the worlds? 6 By no means! Verily the record of the ungodly is in Sijjin. 7 and what shall teach thee what is Sijjin? 8 A written record. 9 Woe, on that Day, to those who reject, 10 who cry lies to the Day of Doom; 11 And none can deny it except every transgressor beyond bounds, (in disbelief, oppression and disobedience of Allah, the sinner!) 12 who, when listening to Our revelations, say, "These are only ancient legends". 13 No. In fact what they have been doing has rusted their hearts. 14 By no means! Verily on that Day from their Lord they will be shut out. 15 Then indeed they have to enter hell. 16 They will then be told: "This is what you had denied." 17 By no means! Verily the record of the virtuous shall be in 'Illiyun. 18 Ah, what will convey unto thee what 'Illiyin is! - 19 It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed 20 witnessed by those brought nigh. 21 Truly the Righteous will be in Bliss: 22 (reclining) upon couches they will gaze, 23 On their faces you will see the glow of beatitude. 24 They will be given pure wine out of sealed containers 25 whose seal is musk – so let all aspirants aspire after that – 26 And admixture thereof will be Water of Tasnim: 27 a fountain at which the chosen ones shall drink. 28 Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. 29 And when they passed by them, they winked at one another. 30 and when they went back to their families, they went back jesting, 31 and when they saw them they said, 'Lo, these men are astray!' 32 But they had not been sent as keepers over them! 33 But on this Day the Believers will laugh at the Unbelievers: 34 [for, resting in paradise] on couches, they will look on [and say to themselves]: 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
