Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Dawn 1 And the ten nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
