Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and ten nights, 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 enter My Paradise! 30
