Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the dawn, 1 and the ten nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 Enter then My garden." 30
