Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the dawn; 1 And ten nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 Enter then My garden." 30
