The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 who belied and turned away, 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
