In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon you a Weighty Word. 5 Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words. 6 surely in the day thou hast long business. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 Bear patiently whatever they say, do not yield to them and keep on preaching decently to them. 10 And leave Me (alone to deal with) those in possession of the good things of life, who (yet) deny the Truth; and bear with them for a little while. 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure. 16 How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
