Noah (Nooh)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
We sent Noah to his people telling him, "Warn your people before a painful torment approaches them". 1 He said: O my people! Lo! I am a plain warner unto you 2 that you should worship God [alone] and be conscious of Him. Pay heed to me. 3 and He will forgive you your sins, and defer you to a stated term; God's term, when it comes, cannot be deferred, did you but know."' 4 He said: my Lord! Verily I have called my people night and day. 5 but my calling has only increased them in flight. 6 And whenever I called them, that Thou mightest forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, and wrapped them in their garments, and persisted, and waxed very proud. 7 Then I summoned them openly, 8 And lo! I have made public proclamation unto them, and I have appealed to them in private. 9 Then I said, Ask forgiveness of your Lord, surely He is the most Forgiving: 10 He will let loose the sky upon you in abundance 11 and give to you wealth and sons, and provide you with gardens and rivers. 12 ‘What is the matter with you, that you do not desire honour from Allah?’ 13 And indeed He has created you through various grades: 14 Behold ye not in what wise Allah hath created seven heavens in storeys. 15 And has made the moon a light therein, and made the sun a lamp? 16 And Allah has caused you to grow out of the earth so wondrously, 17 Then He will return you into it and extract you [another] extraction. 18 And Allah hath made the earth a wide expanse for you 19 so that you may walk along its spacious paths?" 20
