The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 And by oath of your forefather Ibrahim, and by you his illustrious son! 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 To free a neck (from the burden of debt or slavery), 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 to an orphaned relative 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. 17 These are the fellows of the righthand. 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
