The Spoils of War (Al-Anfaal)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ They ask you about the spoils of war. Say, "They belong to God and His Messenger. So fear God, and set things right among yourselves, and obey God and His Messenger, if you are true believers: 1 The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, feel a fear in their hearts and when His Verses (this Quran) are recited unto them, they (i.e. the Verses) increase their Faith; and they put their trust in their Lord (Alone); 2 Those who keep up prayer and spend (benevolently) out of what We have given them. 3 Such are the true believers. Their reward from their Lord will be high ranks, forgiveness, and a generous provision. 4 [It is] just as when your Lord brought you out of your home [for the battle of Badr] in truth, while indeed, a party among the believers were unwilling, 5 Disputing with thee of the Truth after it had been made manifest, as if they were being driven to death visible. 6 And when Allah promised you one of the two bands (of the enemy) that it should be yours, and ye longed that other than the armed one might be yours. And Allah willed that He should cause the Truth to triumph by His words, and cut the root of the disbelievers; 7 In order that He may prove the truth and disprove falsehood, even if the criminals get annoyed. 8 When you sought aid from your Lord, so He answered you: I will assist you with a thousand of the angels following one another. 9 God wrought this not, save as good tidings and that your hearts thereby might be at rest; help comes only from God; surely God is All-mighty, All-wise. 10
