Light (Al-Noor)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ This is a Surah which We have sent down and We have made it mandatory, and We have sent down clear Commandments in it so that you may learn lessons. 1 The woman and the man guilty of illegal sexual intercourse, flog each of them with a hundred stripes. Let not pity withhold you in their case, in a punishment prescribed by Allah, if you believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let a party of the believers witness their punishment. (This punishment is for unmarried persons guilty of the above crime but if married persons commit it, the punishment is to stone them to death, according to Allah's Law). 2 The adulterer shall not marry except an adulteress or a polytheist woman, and none shall marry an adulteress except an adulterer or a polytheist; and this is forbidden for the believers. 3 As for those persons who charge chaste women with false accusations but do not produce four witnesses, flog them with eighty stripes and never accept their evidence afterwards, for they themselves are transgressors, 4 except those among them that afterwards repent and mend their ways. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. 5 And those who accuse their wives [of adultery] and have no witnesses except themselves - then the witness of one of them [shall be] four testimonies [swearing] by Allah that indeed, he is of the truthful. 6 And (swear) a fifth time that if he tell a lie the curse of God be on him. 7 And the punishment shall be averted from the woman if she bears the testimony four times by the name of Allah, that the man is a liar. 8 and the fifth [time,] that God's curse be upon her if he is telling the truth, 9 And were it not for Allah’s munificence and His mercy upon you and that Allah is the Acceptor of Repentance, the Wise – He would then have unveiled you. 10
